Facing the San Francisco Giants might be the ideal way for the Arizona Diamondbacks to get back on track.

It's usually led to positive results for Trevor Cahill.

Cahill and the Diamondbacks hope to continue their success against the Giants on Saturday night at Chase Field.

Arizona (15-18) snapped a five-game losing streak Friday with a 5-1 victory over San Francisco (15-17). The Diamondbacks have outscored the Giants 56-23 during a nine-game winning streak in the series -- tied for the longest active run by one team over another in the majors.

"There's no explanation for it at all," said Arizona manager Kirk Gibson, whose club has also beaten the Giants eight straight times at home. "I hope we beat them again (Saturday), not to keep the streak alive, just because we try and win every night."

Paul Goldschmidt homered for the first time since his first at-bat of the season -- also against San Francisco -- outfielder A.J. Pollock hit his first career home run and Patrick Corbin threw seven strong innings in the series opener.

The Diamondbacks hope Friday's three-hit performance will mark the beginning of better days for Goldschmidt, who had been 0 for 9 in his previous four games and has 26 strikeouts in 91 at-bats. He's hit four of his 10 career regular-season home runs in 40 at-bats versus San Francisco.

"You've got to stay confident," Goldschmidt said. "(Saturday) we've got to have the same attitude that we had (Friday)."

Pollock is 8 for 18 in his last six games.

Cahill (2-3, 3.26 ERA) hopes the success he enjoyed against the Giants while with Bay Area rival Oakland will carry over to his first season with the Diamondbacks. The right-hander has allowed four runs and 16 hits over 27 2/3 innings while going 3-0 in four starts versus San Francisco.

Cahill gave up three runs in seven innings of Sunday's 3-1 road loss to the New York Mets.

Scheduled Giants starter Matt Cain (1-2, 2.38) lasted six innings and yielded five runs while not factoring in the decision of a 7-6 loss at Arizona on April 8. He's 10-6 with a 3.61 ERA in 24 starts against the Diamondbacks.

Cain is 0-2 in his last four starts overall, but has a 2.08 ERA during that stretch while his teammates have supported him with a total of four runs. He allowed two runs and struck out 10 in seven innings of Sunday's 4-3, 11-inning victory over Milwaukee.

"He's relentless in how he approaches the game," manager Bruce Bochy told the Giants' official website. "What a job he does on a consistent basis."

Melky Cabrera hit his first home run since opening day at Arizona and had two of the five hits Friday for San Francisco, which has totaled six runs while losing three of four.

"This offense has got to get going," Bochy said. "I just think that you are going to break out at some point."

Cabrera has been a bright spot at the plate for the Giants, batting .405 (15 for 37) over his last nine games. He's hitting .406 with two home runs and six RBIs in eight career games at Chase Field.
