CINCINNATI (AP) -- Deivi Cruz and Pedro Feliz matched each other hit for hit -- and that spelled trouble for the Cincinnati Reds.

Cruz and Feliz both set career highs with five hits, and the San Francisco Giants came from behind to overpower Cincinnati 10-8 Tuesday night.

"I felt like I had a good game," said Feliz, batting .267 with 18 homers and 70 RBI in 116 games. "I'd like to have more. I think I should have better numbers, but I'm happy with what I have."

Cruz and Feliz became the first pair of Giants with five hits in the same game since Terry Whitfield and Darrell Evans on July 17, 1978.

"I can't remember two guys getting five hits," Reds interim manager Jerry Narron said.

Cruz fell a triple short of the cycle and tied a career high with five RBI, while Feliz scored four runs and was a home run shy of the cycle. Giants outfielder Randy Winn did hit for the cycle in Monday night's victory.

San Francisco set a season high with 19 hits to overcome a pair of two-run homers by former Giant Rich Aurilia and a ninth-inning solo shot by Ken Griffey Jr.

"I guess we're hitting now," Giants manager Felipe Alou said. "Some guys were hacking. We had 10-for-10 hackers. Hitting comes and goes, but we're together now."

Feliz, playing left field in place of the injured Barry Bonds and Moises Alou, led off the seventh with his fourth hit, a triple to center field, off Jason Standridge (2-1) and scored on Edgardo Alfonzo's bloop single down the right-field line to give San Francisco an 8-7 lead.

"He's supposed to be the third or fourth guy, but he's been the No. 1 guy most of the year," Alou said. "We need to keep him in the lineup until [Moises Alou] gets back or Barry is back -- according to his Web site."

Jeff Fassero (3-6) earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief. Tyler Walker got three outs for his 22nd save.

Giants starter Jason Schmidt, who won his previous two starts, was roughed up for eight hits and a season-high seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, matching his shortest outing of the season. He also walked four, three of which scored. His previous season high for runs allowed was six, which he'd reached six times.

Reds starter Eric Milton gave up seven runs, six earned, and a career-high 12 hits in five innings.

The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the second on singles by Feliz and Todd Linden, and Cruz's double. They made it 2-0 in the third when Lance Niekro reached first on a fielder's choice and scored on Feliz's double into the left-field corner, which was bobbled by Wily Mo Pena for an error.

Aurilia touched off Cincinnati's five-run third inning with a two-run homer, his 12th of the season. After Griffey flied out, the Reds loaded the bases to set up Jason LaRue's three-run double.

The Giants cut the lead to 5-4 in the fourth with back-to-back singles by Cruz and Mike Matheny, Schmidt's sacrifice and Winn's one-out double to left.

Aurilia got those runs back in the bottom half with his second two-run homer in two innings.

Cruz responded with a three-run shot in the fifth to tie the score at 7 and get Schmidt off the hook. Cruz came in 1-for-11 in the first seven games of San Francisco's season-long 13-game road trip.

Ray Durham greeted reliever Kent Mercker with the first pinch-hit homer of his career leading off the eighth. Feliz opened the ninth with his second double and scored on Cruz's single.

"I wanted to [hit for the cycle], but you don't want to try too hard," Feliz said. "I was lucky to get the double."

Griffey led off the ninth against Walker with his 28th homer this season and the 529th of his career. He has 1,526 RBI, snapping a tie with Jeff Bagwell and Sam Crawford for 40th on the career list. Walker is the 336th pitcher to allow at least one homer to Griffey.

Reds INF Ryan Freel was placed on the 15-day disabled list and is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. The Reds purchased the contract of INF Aaron Holbert from Triple-A Louisville. Holbert arrived in time to pinch-hit for Milton in the fifth and strike out. ... Reds 1B Sean Casey left after one inning with a strained left shoulder. He was scheduled to be re-evaluated Wednesday. ... Cruz's homer was the major league-leading 35th allowed by Milton ... Niekro went 0-for-5, extending his streak of consecutive hitless at-bats to 13.
