• Summary: Javier Vazquez and four relievers combined on a five-hitter the day after Mark Buehrle's no-hitter to lead the White Sox. Pierzynski hit his first home run of the season and is now batting .205.
• Turning point: After Ian Kinsler's sacrifice hit scored Sammy Sosa in the seventh inning, the Rangers had tied the game 3-3. But the White Sox's Joe Crede singled to center field, scoring Jermaine Dye and Rob Mackowiak's home run drove in Crede to give the Sox a 6-3 lead. • Figure this: Sosa hit his fourth home run of the season, giving him 592 career home runs. • Quotable: "I think we were better in the dugout. I think I see more life out of there. I see more guys rooting for each other and now I think they have more confidence. I like what I see right now." -- White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen • Elias Says What's rarer than a 5-for-5 game -- meaning five hits in five at-bats? How about five walks in five trips to the plate, as Jim Thome did. Over the past two seasons (2005-2006), only Ryan Howard and Brian Giles had five BBs in five plate appearances, compared to 37 players who had the more traditional 5-for-5 game during that time. -- ESPN.com news services |
White Sox 6, Rangers 4
