Blue Jays 9, White Sox 3

TORONTO (AP) -- After more late-inning struggles, changes are on the way for the Chicago White Sox's bullpen.

Aaron Hill hit a tiebreaking double in the seventh inning and Alex Rios added a three-run homer in the eighth to help the Toronto Blue Jays beat the White Sox 9-3 on Saturday.

Chicago has lost six of its past seven games.

"We don't have the luxury to lose a game like that," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "If you lose games like this, you're going to have a lot of trouble late in the season. We have to do something about it and see what we can come up with."

Guillen said he would talk to general manager Kenny Williams and said a move would likely come Monday when the White Sox return to Chicago.

"The bullpen is lucky they're in Toronto," Guillen said. "If we were in Chicago, I guarantee people would be out."

Closer Bobby Jenks has converted 14 consecutive save opportunities, but other White Sox relievers have struggled in recent weeks.

"It's hard for us to think about how we're going to get to Bobby," Guillen said. "It's not easy for any manager when you don't have confidence in the people in your bullpen. When you come out of the bullpen you've got to throw strikes and we're not doing that."

Toronto's Dustin McGowan (2-2) gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings to win his second straight start. He walked two and struck out five. Casey Janssen earned his second save.

Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, the Blue Jays knocked starter Jose Contreras from the game with a bunt single from catcher Sal Fasano and an one-out single by Rios.

Reliever Mike MacDougal got Lyle Overbay to ground to first, then loaded the bases by walking Frank Thomas on four pitches.

Left-hander Matt Thornton entered to face Matt Stairs, but Toronto manager John Gibbons sent up pinch hitter Vernon Wells, who tied the game with a broken-bat single up the middle. Wells' hit snapped an 0-for-7 slump.

Hill followed with a double down the left-field line, scoring Thomas with the go-ahead run.

"It's not easy when you make moves and day in and day out you make the wrong ones," Guillen said.

MacDougal (1-3) has allowed 14 runs in his past six innings, raising his ERA to 7.13.

"Everybody in their career has points like this," MacDougal said. "The sooner you can turn it around, the better."

Toronto put the game out of reach with a five-run eighth. Rios hit a three-run homer off reliever David Aardsma, his 13th. Thomas was hit by a pitch and Wells doubled before Hill hit a two-run single.

The White Sox didn't expect their bullpen to be a problem this season.

"The hype in spring training was about the bullpen, how many strong arms we had," Thornton said. "We haven't picked up the starters and we haven't picked up the hitters."

After giving up three early runs, McGowan didn't allow a hit in his final four innings.

"That just shows you the type of maturity he's starting to develop," Fasano said. "About a month ago, he probably would have panicked and tried to be perfect."

The White Sox took a 3-0 lead with runs in each of the first three innings. Jerry Owens led off the game with a double, moved to third on a grounder and scored on Jim Thome's sacrifice fly.

Joe Crede reached on a two-out bloop double in the second and scored on Juan Uribe's single.

In the third, Tadahito Iguchi led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Jermaine Dye's sacrifice fly.

Toronto got its first run in the second. With Adam Lind at first after a single, Royce Clayton hit a grounder that went through Uribe's legs at shortstop, sending Lind to third. Fasano followed with an RBI single.

Contreras gave up three runs -- two earned -- and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two.
