• Summary: Rookie Tim Lincecum struck out a career-high 12, allowing three hits and no runs in seven innings of work as the Giants crushed the Diamondbacks in the rubber game of their three-game series. Lincecum's strikeouts were the fourth highest total by a San Francisco rookie.
• Turning point: San Francisco had a 2-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Giants exploded for six runs. Barry Bonds got things started with a two-run double and Bengie Molina finshed the run off with a two-run home run. • Another record: Bonds' double was the 2,900th career hit and 377th double with the Giants, moving him past his godfather, Hall of Famer Willie Mays, and into sole possession of first place in San Francisco history. • Figure this: The Giants scored 13 or more runs for the third time this year. • Quotable: "It's something that's expected. He has the talent. He has the ability. We told him, 'It's not how hard you throw it, it's where you throw it.' Today, he located great." -- Bonds, on Lincecum's performance -- ESPN.com news services |
Giants 13, Diamondbacks 0
Game notes

Lincecum's previous strikeout high was 10 on May 17 against Houston. ... The Giants scored 13 or more runs for only the third time this year after also winning 13-0 exactly a month earlier, on June 1 at Philadelphia.
