Devil Rays 6
(34-51, 15-27 away)
Royals 5
(36-50, 18-28 home)
8:10 PM ET, July 6, 2007
Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
|
• Summary: Brendan Harris and Delmon Young had two RBIs apiece and the bullpen held off a furious late rally as the Devil Rays beat the Royals Friday to end an 11-game losing streak.
• 'V' for victory: The visiting Rays (34-51), who have the worst record in the majors, won for the first time since beating the Dodgers on June 24. Tampa Bay, which suffered through its longest longest streak since a 12-game skid in 2004, improved to 12-22 since June 1.
• Heroes: Young's third-inning double gave Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead. Harris added a sixth-inning insurance run, and Carlos Pena and Jonny Gomes each had two hits. • Figure this: It was Tampa Bay's second victory in its last 23 July road games dating to July 29, 2005, but the 12th victory in the last 15 meetings with the Royals. • Quotable: "The baseball gods conspired against us for about two weeks. Now we get to move on." -- Devil Rays manager Joe Maddon -- ESPN.com news services |
