U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, Illinois
W: M. MacDougal (2-5)
L: D. Moseley (4-3)
|
• Summary: Jim Thome was 0-for-4 when he stepped to the plate with the score knotted at 7 in the bottom of the ninth. With a runner on, he cracked a 3-2 pitch off Dustin Moseley for his 500th career homer, capping Chicago's rally from a 7-1 deficit.
• Way to break through: Thome became the first player in MLB history to have his 500th HR be of the walk-off variety. He's the 23rd member of the 500-HR club and the third this season (Alex Rodriguez and Frank Thomas). • Figure this: Vladimir Guerrero reached 25 homers for a 10th straight season with a solo shot to right in the first off Mark Buehrle.
• Not a lock for Cooperstown: It'll take more than 500 homers for Jim Thome to be a Hall of Famer, ESPN Insider Rob Neyer writes. Story • Quotable: "I really don't think it will sink in until I'm home this winter and you reflect on things." -- Thome -- ESPN.com news services |

Game notes
