A-Rod's bomb hits catwalk, draws first official replay as Yanks cruise
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Alex Rodriguez made major league history by agreeing with an umpire.
The New York Yankees third baseman, a lightning rod for headlines on and off the field throughout his career, saw his ninth-inning home run Wednesday night the same way as third base umpire Brian Runge. So did baseball's instant replay system.Fast Facts
• Wednesday was the fourth time Alex Rodriguez homered in back-to-back games. He homered in four consecutive games from June 14-18.
• Carlos Pena walked twice to extend his on-base streak to 13 games.
• After throwing 91 pitches in his return to the majors, Carl Pavano has yet to reach the 80-pitch mark in his last two outings.
• Wednesday's loss marked the first time this year the Rays have lost back-to-back games to start a month.
