Lowrie singles home winning run in 9th as Red Sox clinch series win over Angels
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox brushed aside the 100-win Angels in four games, dismissing their best-in-baseball regular season as last month's news.

Cubs, meet the Angels. For the third time since the inception of division series play in 1995, both teams with the best record in each league failed to win a series.

• The Red Sox improved to 4-0 all-time against the Angels in postseason series, having beaten them in 1986, 2004, 2007, and 2008. Boston has also won 12 of the last 13 playoff games against Los Angeles.
• Jon Lester, who threw seven shutout innings, has allowed three runs in 23 1/3 IP in his postseason career.

Lackey was rescued from a second loss in the series when the Angels tied it in the eighth. He allowed two runs and seven hits, giving up four runs in 13 2/3 innings during the series. He was outpitched by Lester both times. ... Hunter was 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The rest of the Angels had three hits combined. ... Pedroia was hitless in 19 postseason at-bats dating to the 2007 World Series.
