CINCINNATI -- Carlos Zambrano was prepared to do everything he could to earn his 100th career victory.
Zambrano pitched into the seventh inning, hit a key home run and added a couple of heads-up defensive plays for good measure to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.Why Zambrano won
• Carlos Zambrano's seven strikeouts tied his season high. Batters swung and missed 15 times, also a season high.
• Zambrano did his damage with his fastball. Hitters were 1-for-14 against it, including 11 swing and misses.
• Batters had been hitting .290 against Zambrano's fastball in his first eight starts. They hit .071 on Friday.
