Yankees stroll to easy win as Posada, Pettitte combine to dismantle Rangers
NEW YORK -- Andy Pettitte was sitting at home Wednesday morning, watching the Little League World Series on TV when he saw his name scrolling across the bottom of the screen.
The caption informed him that if Pettitte beat the Texas Rangers, he'd tie Lefty Gomez for third place on the New York Yankees' career win list -- quite the milestone for a veteran pitcher who admittedly prefers to stay out of the spotlight. Why Andy Pettitte Won
• Season-high 81 percent first-pitch strikes (22-of-27 batters faced).
• 13 swinging strikes. It was the fourth time in his last seven starts he had 10-plus swinging strikes.
• Hitters went 0-for-1 with five K's and missed 40 percent of their swings on pitches on the inner third of the plate.
