Pedro leaves after 3 innings; Braves win season series vs. Phillies
ATLANTA -- Pedro Martinez knew he wouldn't last long after straining his neck during a second-inning at-bat.
Javier Vazquez outpitched an ailing Martinez, and the Atlanta Braves survived a shaky ninth inning to snap Philadelphia's six-game winning streak with a 6-4 victory over the Phillies on Saturday night."When I took that swing on that second curve ball, I felt something," he said. "But I didn't think it was going to get worse than it was. I felt a little discomfort, but it got stiff as the game went on."Fast Facts
• Javier Vazquez moved to 4-0 in his last five starts, pitching seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
• The Braves have won eight of their last nine games; every starter besides Vazquez had at least one hit.
• Ryan Howard hit his 41st homer of the season, his third in the last two games after hitting three in his previous 21 games.
• Pedro Martinez lost his first game of the season and 100th of his career (219-100).
