Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- This popup took a bad hop.
Jason Kubel's two-out pop clanked off a catwalk high above Tropicana Field and fell behind the pitcher's mound for a go-ahead single in the ninth inning, a true dome run that sent the Minnesota Twins past the Tampa Bay Rays 8-6 on Thursday.Twins-Rays Catwalk Rules
The Twins beat the Rays 8-6, getting a go-ahead single in the ninth inning when Jason Kubel's popup hit a catwalk at Tropicana Field and fell in fair territory.
There are four catwalks that ring the inside of the ballpark, helping support the roof. The ground rules for balls hitting the catwalks at Tampa Bay:
Catwalks, lights and suspended objects: Batted ball strikes catwalk, light or suspended object over fair territory:
Batted ball that strikes either of the lower two catwalks, lights or suspended objects in fair territory: Home run.
Batted ball that is not judged a home run and remains on a catwalk, light or suspended object: Two bases.
Batted ball that is not judged a home run and strikes a catwalk, light or suspended object in fair territory shall be judged fair or foul in relation to where it strikes the ground or is touched by a fielder. If caught by fielder, batter is out and runners advance at own risk.
Batted ball strikes catwalk, light or suspended object over foul territory: Dead ball.

He came within one triple of joining Ty Cobb as the only players during the modern era to have at least 100 triples and 400 stolen bases before turning 29. ... Minnesota right-hander Jon Rauch was unavailable for the second straight game due an allergic reaction that produced a rash and blisters on his hands. ...
