TORONTO -- Jonathan Papelbon's streak of perfection against the Toronto Blue Jays came to a costly end for the Boston Red Sox.
Fred Lewis' sacrifice fly capped a four-run rally in the ninth inning and lifted Toronto to a 6-5 victory over Boston on Thursday, just the Blue Jays' third win in 12 games against the Red Sox this season.More From ESPNBoston.com
The Red Sox somehow lost what seemed to be a certain victory against the Blue Jays, as a lethargic Jonathan Papelbon blew the save, writes Gordon Edes. Story

Research Notes
Terry Francona inability to utilize the back end of his bullpen properly has brought undue heat on closer Jonathan Papelbon this year. Clearly Papelbon has failed in spots, but being a closer means having the mentality that the 9th inning is your inning. Francona's failure to put him in that comfort zone has caused Papelbon' numbers to suffer. Here's a hint to Francona: might want to consider calling on him at the beginning of the inning. David Ortiz hit his 25th HR of the season Thursday, giving him his 7th career season with 25 or more HR, all with the Red Sox. That ties Ortiz with Jim Rice for the 2nd-most 25-HR seasons in Red Sox history. [+]Most Seasons with 25+ HR - Red Sox History
