Game notes
Rangers manager Ron Washington said Hamilton would not be in the lineup Wednesday after having a shot after Tuesday's game in his sore right knee. ... Rangers right-hander Rich Harden, who came off the DL on Aug. 23 after having right shoulder tendinitis, will not be going back into the rotation after going 5-5 with a 5.17 ERA in 17 starts. Harden was penciled to start Friday, but left-hander Derek Holland will start instead at Minnesota. Harden has not pitched in relief since 2007, making three bullpen appearances with the Oakland Athletics. ... The Royals will activate right-hander Gil Meche, who is on the 60-day DL with a shoulder injury, on Wednesday when rosters can be expanded.

Research Notes
How Rangers Starter Cliff Lee Struggled Against the Royals:
-Poor command (for him): Lee has been a strike-throwing machine this season, leading all starters with a 71.8 strike percentage. Tuesday, however, he was as poor as he's been all season at pounding the zone. He threw 70 of 108 pitches for strikes (64.8 pct), his lowest strike percentage in a start this season - incredibly, still above the MLB average of 62.8.
-Didn't get ahead: Lee threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of 25 batters faced (56 pct), his lowest percentage in a start this year and well below his season average of 70 percent. |
Vladimir Guerrero 432nd career HR, passes Cal Ripken into 39th place on all-time HR list.
He now has 25+ HR in 12 different seasons. Among players born in the Dominican Republic, that ranks 2nd-most, tied with Sammy Sosa, trailing only Manny Ramirez (13)(13 |
Cliff Lee has allowed 4+ runs in each of his last 5 starts. That's his worst SINGLE-SEASON streak since going 6 straight starts in 2006. |
