ATLANTA -- Tommy Hanson knew exactly how long it had been since his last win.
"July 3," he said without a bit of hesitation. He doesn't have to remember that date anymore. Hanson finally got some run support and won for the first time in nearly two months, allowing just one hit in seven shutout innings to lead the Atlanta Braves to their fifth straight win, 4-1 over the New York Mets on Wednesday night.Mets blog

Research Notes
How Braves starter Tommy Hanson dominated the Mets:
-Hanson had his fastball working on Wednesday, using it most effectively out of the strike zone. Of the 60 fastballs he threw, 27 were outside the zone and 10 of those were chased by Mets hitters (37 pct). That's Hanson's highest chase percentage on his fastball this season.
-With help from the Mets, Hanson recorded a season-high 16 outs on his fastball, including a team-high three by Josh Thole. No batter had a hit against his fastball.
-Hanson got ahead of hitters all night. He threw first-pitch strikes to 16 of 23 batters faced (70 pct, season avg 64 pct). He went to a 1-1 count seven times, following six of those with a strike to go to 1-2 (86 pct, season avg 58 pct). |
Jason Heyward is the 2nd Braves player aged 21 or younger with 3 4-hit games in a season since 1920.
The other was Hank Aaron who had 4 4-hit games in 1955. |
