Jon Garland 4-hits Braves as Dodgers shake off turmoil to claim victory
LOS ANGELES -- So much for distractions. The Los Angeles Dodgers were able to focus on Derek Lowe and the Atlanta Braves.
Hours after Major League Baseball announced it was assuming control of the Dodgers, Jon Garland pitched a four-hitter to lead Los Angeles to a 6-1 victory Wednesday night on manager Don Mattingly's 50th birthday."I feel bad about the situation and everything that's going on," said Garland, in his second stint with the Dodgers. "But as a player in this locker room, you have to go about your business the right way. If that affects the way you play, you need to look in the mirror and question yourself a little bit."More on the Dodgers

Research Notes
Andre Ethier, LAD: 3-4, 3 R, 2B, HR (2), 2 RBI
Ethier extended his hitting streak to 17 games in the Dodgers' 6-1 win over the Braves on Wednesday. His scalding start is primarily because of his success hitting fastballs. After going 2-for-2 Wednesday in at-bats ending in fastballs, Ethier is now hitting .450 (18-for-40) in at-bats ending with a fastball. Ethier is making more contact on fastballs in 2011 and chasing fewer bad ones out of the zone. For comparison's sake, Ethier's batting average against non-fastballs in 2011 is .303; it was .277 in 2010.
