How James Shields defeated the Indians:
(Shields' 6th straight start of at least 7 IP and 2 or fewer ER allowed)
- Down town. In at-bats ending with pitches down, the Indians were 1-8 (.125) with three strikeouts. For the season, opposing batters are 9-78 (.115) on such pitches against Shields.
- Soft stuff. Indians hitters were 1-9 (.111) with three strikeouts in at-bats ending with a changeup. Again, it continued a season-long trend as foes are 14-75 (.187) against Shields' change of pace.
- Get back! Shields picked off two runners today (one off second, one off first), increasing his season total to five. | |||||||||||||||||||||
