Research Notes
From Elias: FROM ELIAS:
Today's game between Oakland and Seattle was only the second game in modern baseball history (since 1900) in which there were zero walks in an Opening Day game that went extra innings. The other game came on April 14, 1906 in a game between the Boston Pilgrims and New York Highlanders (Red Sox/Yankees) at Hilltop Park. The Yankees won 2-1 in 12 innings as Jack Chesbro outdueled Cy Young. Both future Hall-of-Famers threw complete games and neither one issued a walk. |
