Red Sox 'pen blows it as Tigers cap sweep with walk-off win in 11th
DETROIT -- Alex Avila's drive sailed to deep right field, barely clearing both an outfielder and a wall.An exhilarating opening series at Comerica Park was finally over, and the Detroit catcher could look forward to some much-needed rest."I'm too tired right now," Avila said. "I'm glad we have an off day (Monday). This weekend has been crazy."
SportsNation: Odom out with Mavericks
The Red Sox bullpen didn't serve them particularly well this weekend, culminating in two blown leads in Sunday's loss against the Tigers. Will this be a problem going forward?

While Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder could prove to be one of the most lethal offensive duos we've seen in several years, Tigers catcher Alex Avila could prove to be a deadly third weapon in the order, writes SweetSpot's David Schoenfield. Blog
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine's life is being made very difficult by his bumbling bullpen, writes Gordon Edes. Story
The Tigers placed RHP Doug Fister (strained left side) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP Brayan Villarreal from Triple-A Toledo, moves they announced after Saturday's game. ... Valentine went out onto the field after Gonzalez was hit by a pitch from Phil Coke in the eighth. From Elias: This is the first time that the Red Sox have ever lost a game in which they held multiple-run leads twice in the ninth inning or later. And it's the 2nd time that the Tigers have won a game in this fashion, the first since September 28, 1929 against the White Sox.
Red Sox are 0-3 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since losing their first three games in three straight years from 1931-33.
Sunday's 13-12 score marked the first game in MLB since May 6, 2010 (at TEX 13, KC 12) where both teams scored a dozen runs. It was the first time the Red Sox scored a dozen runs and lost since May 31, 1970, when they were on the wrong end of a 22-13 slugfest with the White Sox at Fenway Park.
