PHOENIX -- Ian Kennedy focused more on Arizona's victory than the three home runs he gave up to one hitter.
Kennedy pitched into the seventh inning to extend his recent run of good starts and the Diamondbacks overcame Ike Davis' three homers in a 6-3 win over the skidding New York Mets on Saturday night.More From ESPNNewYork.com
Ike Davis' three-homer game was particularly meaningful to the native Arizonan, despite it coming in a 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, writes Adam Rubin. Blog
Game notes
Diamondbacks OF Justin Upton has eight home runs after hitting 31 last season. Asked about the power drought, Gibson said Upton might have a timing issue, adding that he's also been a more selective hitter this season. Upton is waiting on more off-speed pitches and looking to make contact more than hitting for power, Gibson believes. "He's not that far off," the manager said. ... Gibson said he hasn't spoken with general manager Kevin Towers since the Diamondbacks traded INF Ryan Roberts on Tuesday, and while noting that Towers is always busy and "when he's around me, his phone rings all the time," no deal seems imminent with Tuesday's trade deadline approaching. ... Mets CF Andres Torres, who entered in the fifth, made a running catch with his back to the infield in deep center field in the seventh, stealing a hit away from Parra.Copyright by STATS LLC and The Associated Press

Research Notes
From Elias: Mets are the 4th team that lost a game where a player had 3+ homers and lost another where a player hit for the cycle in the same season:
Amazingly, the Mets have done it twice.
2012 New York Mets (Ike Davis - 3 HR, Scott Hairston cycle)
2006 New York Mets (Jose Reyes - 3 HR, Jose Reyes cycle)
1995 New York Yankees (Mike Stanley - 3 HR, Tony Fernandez cycle)
1964 Washington Senators (Jim King - 3 HR, Jim King cycle) |
Ike Davis is the 9th New York Mets player with 3 HR in a game.
The last to do so was Carlos Beltran just last season.
ALL NINE of the Mets to do so have done it on the road. |
