MIAMI -- Marlins starter Kevin Slowey took the mound for the sixth inning Wednesday night and failed to make it through the warmup pitches.

Slowey exited with a strained left lat muscle and took the loss in the Philadelphia Phillies' 3-0 victory.

Cliff Lee (5-2) threw a three-hitter for his 12th career shutout and Delmon Young homered for the second consecutive night.

The Marlins trailed 1-0 when Slowey (1-5) left after allowing six hits and striking out six.

"I felt it on the last pitch of the fourth. I felt it grab a little bit," he said. "I gave it that half-inning and went back out

and threw mostly fastballs in the fifth."

"I came back in after the fifth and the training staff asked if something had cramped up. I said I thought so. They felt it and the hope was to go out and throw the sixth and beyond. My pitch count was pretty low. I didn't want to not give my team a chance to compete. I felt it the first couple warmups and made

    the call," he said.

Miami said Slowey was listed as day to day.

The Marlins failed to cash in on a good scoring opportunity early against Lee, who earned in his first shutout since Sept. 5, 2011.

Miami loaded the bases with nobody out in the second but Nick Green grounded into a third-to-home-to-first double play and Jeff Mathis popped up.

The Marlins' only hits were Marcell Ozuna's infield single leading off the second, Miguel Olivo's lined single opening the sixth and Derek Dietrich's infield single in the ninth.

Ozuna extended his hitting streak to eight games, longest for a Marlins player this season. Dietrich has reached base in all 12 career games.

The Marlins were blanked for the ninth time this season.

"We had that one opportunity to score and didn't get it done and that was about it," Miami manager Mike Redmond said.

Young hit a solo home run off Slowey in the fourth. It was Young's third homer, including a drive off Miami's Jose Fernandez on Tuesday night.

"I made a mistake to Delmon. He's a guy that's swinging and put a charge on the ball," Slowey said. "That's one of the pitches I'd like back, obviously."

Slowey was coming off two starts in which he allowed a combined 11 earned runs in 7 2/3 innings.

"He's been off his last couple outings but he was on tonight," Redmond said.

Philadelphia scored twice off Wade LeBlanc with two outs in the sixth to go ahead 3-0.

Young reached on a two-out infield hit and scored on Domonic Brown's triple. Freddy Galvis singled home Brown.

In the fifth, Chris Coghlan walked but was thrown out at second as he tried to advance when Green flied out to deep right. Young threw to shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who applied the tag as Coghlan slid in headfirst.

    Game notes

Miami RF Giancarlo Stanton (strained hamstring) took swings on the field during batting practice for the first time since going on the disabled list April 30. He hopes to begin running next week.
