From Jay Paris on-site in San Diego for ESPN.com: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will be idle this weekend in San Diego. "He's improving," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's just not where he needs to be.'' Beltran's sore right hamstring had him out Friday against the San Diego Padres. He could be down the next two games, too. "I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play,'' Girardi said. Beltran walked as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's win over the Rangers. He didn't play Wednesday, one day after getting hurt. "As I've said the last few days this was what worried me that he would have to play the field,'' Girardi said. "If he was DHing, it might be a little bit quicker. But we have to make sure he is OK.''
