How the Cubs landed Addison Russell

This weekend last year, the Cubs got the prospect from the A's. Said Theo Epstein: "[Billy] Beane and I re-connected sometime in mid-June and he said he wouldn't do Russell for just [Jeff] Samardzija. He asked if there was a way to get Samardzija without Russell? We said no." Then what?

Yankees won't get Ellsbury back yet

Jacoby Ellsbury, out for six weeks with a knee sprain, won't come off the DL today after missing another rehab game Thursday. Said GM Brian Cashman: "He's going through a spring training-like progression. With all the sprints and work, he is going through, he is slowly getting his legs back."

Scherzer worth every penny to the Nats

Pedro Gomez says that Max Scherzer's value to the Nationals goes beyond his ridiculous numbers because he's single-handedly keeping the bullpen fresh.

Max Scherzer's incredible run

The Nats RHP threw his third complete game in his last four starts Thursday. Prior to that, he had one complete game in 210 career starts. During those four starts, he has allowed a total of 11 hits and four runs while striking out 42 and walking one.

James Loney returns today

The Rays 1B, out since May 24 with a broken left middle finger, will play tonight vs. the Yankees. Said manager Kevin Cash: "We're excited to have him back. To be able to plug our first baseman that we anticipated being with us all year back in the lineup, that'll help."
