Joe Girardi doesn't make a habit of cussing. But he did there, in the run-up to getting ejecting just now, over a contested balk (it appears)

The Yankees are waiting for Dr. Chris Ahmad's opinion on Alex Rodriguez's hamstring MRI on before making any announcements about how long A-Rod will be out. It may be a little awkward if Rodriguez meets with Ahmad since he once sued the doctor for malpractice. The suit was filed when A-Rod was suing everybody, during the Biogenesis investigation. It was later dropped.

A good statistical glimpse into the torrid start to the season Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos has had. His fourth-inning home run -- a three-run bomb that pulled the Tigers within one run of the Indians -- was his fifth of the season. He didn't get his fifth of the season until July 6 (his 78th game) of last season, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Castellanos, who is now hitting .380, has 12 RBI in last eight games and has 47 extra-base hits since July 1 of last season, which ties him with J.D. Martinez for the team lead during that span.

Terry Collins strongly implied that lefty reliever Josh Edgin will remain in the minors when his rehab assignment expires Sunday, while acknowledging it is the front office's decision. During a scoreless inning for Las Vegas on Wednesday, Edgin's fastball velocity was only 87-88 mph. Collins said Edgin will also need to pitch consecutive days before returning, which he has not done yet. Collins added that there's really not a vacancy in the Mets' bullpen at the moment. "Not right now," Collins said. "It could change tomorrow."

Jackie Bradley Jr., a game-time decision with a sore finger, apparently good to go. Red Sox at White Sox: Betts RF, Pedroia 2B, Bogaerts SS, Ortiz DH, Ramirez 1B, Shaw 3B, Holt LF, Hanigan C, Bradley CF, Owens. (For what it's worth, Betts would've played center in Bradley's absence.)

Travis d'Arnaud is hitting in Port St. Lucie, but has yet to throw since landing on the disabled list nine days ago with a right rotator cuff strain, Terry Collins said. Clearly d'Arnaud's absence will last beyond the minimum 15 days.

Heading into his second start, Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer said he planned on utilizing his changeup more, especially against lefties, and the club's top-ranked prospect did that in the second at-bat. Went to it an an 0-2 count against Jason Kipnis and the Indians second baseman hit a line drive to right. That began a string of five hits and a walk that left the Tigers down 4-0 at the bottom of the first inning. Fulmer retired the side with two strikeouts against Lonnie Chisenhall and Chris Gimenez, but still, an ominous start to the game for the 23-year-old flamethrower.
