Rain expected at Wrigley Field this afternoon but it should move out by game time as the Cubs and Sox play their 2016 finale.

It's no surprise Cubs manager Joe Maddon has elected to go with 8 righties in his lineup when his team takes on Chris Sale on Thursday night. Matt Szczur will start in left field while Ben Zobrist is in right. Anthony Rizzo is the lone lefty in the lineup as left handers are hitting just .189 off Sale this year. Righties are hitting .221.

According to one GM the Dodgers are "in" on almost every part of the trade market from top starters Sale and Archer to top relievers Davis and Miller to top bats like Bruce and Cargo and will certainly be an interesting team to watch as the Monday deadline approaches.

How to spice up this trade deadline

All trade deadlines are not created equal, and this year's hasn't seen the torrent of All-Stars changing teams we had in 2015. Could that change?

Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy is out of the lineup today against Arizona lefty Robbie Ray, but hold the hysteria. It's a day game after a night game and Lucroy is hitting .238 vs. left-handers this season, so it makes sense for Brewers manager Craig Counsell to rest him in favor of Martin Maldonado. There's a good chance Lucroy gets moved by Monday's deadline, but he's sitting today because it was a scheduled day off -- not because a trade is imminent.

According to a report by Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Royals are trying to package Ian Kennedy to the Dodgers in a potential Wade Davis trade. Said one MLB exec: "I don't think anyone is taking Ian Kennedy's entire contract." Kennedy is owed about $65 million through the 2020 season. It makes sense for the Royals to try, but the initial response to the idea from Davis suitors appears to be underwhelming.
