MLB's golden age of third basemen
There's a new trend in baseball and it involves a more versatile third baseman. Up-and-coming stars with a more varied skill set, like Chicago's Kris Bryant, have made the position deeper and more exciting. Breaking the mold (Insider)

Trading Hamilton could be mistake
"If Hamilton actually rebounds and goes back to being an effective player for the Rangers ... then the Angels will have doubled-down on their mistake, in failing to find a way to live with him and help him become a good player again." Buster Olney's column (Insider)
Rizzo chasing HBP record
Anthony Rizzo has been hit by a pitch 6 times this season, putting him within one of Shin-Soo Choo's April MLB record. “I don’t like getting hit,” Rizzo said recently. “But you get on base. If I get hit again, I get hit.”
Rain ruining Royals-White Sox series
Kansas City and Chicago were slated to play 2 games today, but rain forced the postponement of both. Friday's suspended game -- tied 2-2 after 8 -- will be resumed Sunday at 2:10 p.m. with another to follow. The 4th game of the series will be made up at a later date.
Early Tex message sent
Mark Teixeira hit 2 HRs to kick off a high-profile series vs. the Mets Friday night. It was the earliest in the season that any player has had a multi-HR game in the Subway Series. The teams meet again today at 4:05 p.m. ET.
King Felix was lights out. Felix Hernandez tosses a shutout to beat Twins, improving to 3-0.
Sport Science: Jose Iglesias' throw to 1B
Tigers teammate David Price wanted Sport Science to break down Iglesias' insane throw to first -- so we did. Turns out, Iglesias' margin for error was only 3 degrees, about the width of a quarter.
Mets' deGrom stumbles against Yankees
Neither the Mets nor Jacob deGrom had their best stuff on Friday. DeGrom allowed 3 home runs, induced a career-low 3 ground balls and his 10.80 ERA was more than 10 times greater than his ERA in his first 3 starts.
Spring speed for Reds' Hamilton
Cincinnati's Billy Hamilton had 3 stolen bases for the Reds Friday, his second time doing so this season. The last player to have two 3-SB games before the end of April was Dave Roberts for the Dodgers in 2004. Hamilton's Reds are back in action today at 1:10 p.m. ET vs. the Cubs.
Jose Bautista won't be put on DL
The Blue Jays OF will avoid the DL despite missing three straight games, manager John Gibbons said Friday. Bautista, dealing with a sore shoulder, will probably DH for a game or two before taking his usual position. He's tied for the team lead with 4 HR.
Angels, Rangers close to Hamilton trade
The Rangers are closing in on reacquiring OF Josh Hamilton via trade, according to ESPN and multiple reports. Hamilton, currently on the DL, had a drug and alcohol relapse this offseason and his lack of punishment by MLB angered the Angels. Deal done soon?
All downhill since Hamilton's MVP
Josh Hamilton led all of baseball in OPS and won the AL MVP in 2010, but has seen his OPS decline steadily since then, finally bottoming out again in 2014.
It's good to be the King
Rangers and Mariners fans have seen the careers of their respective Kings -- Henrik Lundqvist in New York and Felix Hernandez in Seattle -- follow a similar trajectory.
Tex sends a message
Mark Teixeira hit two home runs to power the Yankees to a 6-1 victory in Friday's "subway series" opener, also snapping the Mets' 11-game winning streak. He's the first player to hit two homers in a Mets-Yankees game (for either team) since Russell Martin on June 10, 2012.
Anthony Rendon plays rehab game
The Nationals 3B has been rehabbing a sprained MCL the past six weeks and started a minor league assignment Friday: "It's been rough staying out of it." Rendon will play 7 innings today and could rejoin the Nats within the week.
