White Sox to retire Konerko's number

Paul Konerko's No. 14 will be retired today by the team. Said Konerko on Friday: "As a kid, you see stuff at stadiums or you hear about a guy whose number is retired. You don't really think that that's something that's attainable." He's the 11th player to have his number retired by the Sox.

Top 5 surprising MLB teams

The Astros are the consensus biggest surprise -- in a good way -- so far this season, but there's some disagreement among the BBTN experts as to who rounds out the top 5.

Bryce Harper putting the H in home run

The Nats OF hit his 11th home run since May 6 and is now slugging 1.000 for the month of May. If he keeps it up, he'll be the 4th player since 1900 to have a slugging percentage of 1.000 or better in May, joining Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds and Todd Helton.

Matt Wieters targeting June 4 return

The O's catcher, who had Tommy John surgery in June 2014, is eligible to come off the 60-day DL on June 4 and believes that's a possibility: "The last few games I've gone out there and played, the feelings of being able to get back in a big league game are there. It's not quite back to where it was yet, but it feels good enough to get back playing at this level."

Escobar has the Royals flipping out

For most of us, lying flat on our stomachs means it's nap time. If you're Kansas City SS Alcides Escobar, however, that's the perfect position to throw a runner out at second.

Play1:12

Hanley Ramirez questionable today

The Red Sox LF, hit on the hand in the 4th inning, left Friday's game in the 6th with soreness. Initial tests were negative, but Ramirez is questionable for today's game. An injured shoulder previously kept him out of 4 games earlier this month.

Justin Verlander throws in bullpen

The Tigers RHP, who's rehabbing a right triceps strain, replicated his pregame warm-up routine of about 45 pitches and then threw two innings in the bullpen. He reported no problems after: "All good." Verlander will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.
