After throwing 6 shutout innings on Thursday night against the Nationals starter Kyle Hendricks lowered the ERA of the Cubs starting staff to 2.12. That's tops in the majors breaking a tie with Washington. Both came in at 2.19 but Joe Ross gave up 2 runs while Hendricks kept them off the board.

No sugar-coating the six straight losses to the Cleveland Indians this season. According to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, they were the better team: "They outplayed us, simple as that. They out-pitched us, they out-hit us, they out-defended us. Period. They were the better baseball team out there. They've been the better baseball team all six games we've played against [them]."

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus on the Cleveland Indians' pair of sweeps against Detroit this season: "Quite frankly... They kicked our asses these first six games of the season."

For the cigar buffs out there, those were 50 Dominican cigars that David Ortiz received from the White Sox in the Ron Kittle-crafted humidor before tonight's game at U.S. Cellular Field.

Dustin Ackley with a game-saving catch against the wall in right field. If he doesn't catch it and it bounces away, game over.

Travis Shaw with a triple thanks to very generous scorekeeping. Austin Jackson was there in time at the warning track in deep center, but the ball clanked off his glove. Come on, this is the major leagues. That's an error. Let's see if it leads to a run.

Orioles starter Kevin Gausman just got a standing ovation at Camden Yards, and deservedly so. The 25-year old righty has allowed three hits over eight scoreless. In the process, he became the first O's hurler this season to make it past the seventh inning.

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler was ejected from tonight's game against the Washington Nationals at the end of the third inning after arguing a high strike 3 call by home plate ump Vic Carapazza. It was the second time tonight Fowler went down looking, Joe Maddon picked up the argument after Fowler as the outfielder headed to the clubhouse. Jason Heyward took over in center after missing the last 3 games with a sore wrist.

Tough series for the Rangers in Toronto. First they suffer back-to-back walk-off losses and tonight the Jays hammered Derek Holland with no mercy, putting up 11 runs on him in 2.2 innings. It's the seventh time in Rangers history a starter has allowed at least 11 runs. Edwin Encarnacion has six RBIs.

David Ortiz received a humidor filled with cigars as a parting gift from the White Sox before his final regular-season game on Chicago's south side. Apparently, the humidor was hand-crafted by former White Sox slugger Ron Kittle. It was presented to Ortiz by ace Chris Sale.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected from Thursday night's game for arguing during the fourth inning. Girardi got into it with third base ump Chris Guccione, ranting and waving his arms. It wasn't entirely clear why Girardi argued, though, there was press box speculation that he felt a balk call was missed. There is no score between the Orioles and Yankees in the fourth.

Joe Girardi doesn't make a habit of cussing. But he did there, in the run-up to getting ejecting just now, over a contested balk (it appears)

The kid who tried to take a #selfie with Brandon Drury after his insane catch last night got a real one today, with a little help from the man himself (and a bonus A+ photobomb). (via @dbacks)
