So Anibal Sanchez' day ends with a truly bizarre final line -- 5 2/3 IP, 3H, 2R, 7 BB and 9 K -- after 114 pitches. According to ESPN Stats and Info, the highest number of walks the Tigers starter had given up on a day where he had 9 K's or more prior to today was 4.

David Ross put a ball onto the street outside of Wrigley Field on a freezing day for career HR No. 98 Thursday afternoon while Jake Arrieta's home scoreless streak has reached 51.2 innings as the Cubs lead the Brewers in the third inning. Arrieta struggled in the first but has been lights out the last two innings.

Pittsburgh Pirates top pitching prospects Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon are off to successful starts at AAA Indianapolis. Glasnow 2.57 ERA 30 K's 21 IP and Taillon 1.65 ERA 16Ks 16 IP watch for 2nd half impact for Pirates. Neal Huntington Bucs GM told me both could be ready for June. He told me there is a ton of optimism on both right now.

Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez records his eighth strikeout as he strands two runners for the A's in the fifth inning. Encouraging sign that he's generating swings and misses. Tigers were really pulling for him to have a strong start today; need him to turn the corner.

Jake Arrieta gave up a broken bat single to Milwaukee lead off man Jonathan Villar so his bid for back to back no hitters ended quickly. Arrieta proceeded to walk two hitters and give up three stolen bases in the first inning but he stranded the bases loaded striking out the final two Brewers. He has a 49.2 inning scoreless streak going at Wrigley Field.

Brewers load the bases with 1 out vs Jake Arrieta, but the ace gets out of it with 2 Ks to keep his home scoreless inning streak intact.

Interesting development in right field. Tigers OF J.D. Martinez has been joined by a flock of pigeons that seemed to be making themselves at home in the air space there. That can't be distracting, right?

Four years ago today, Bryce Harper debuted. His anniversary present? Aaron Nola. Harper is 5-for-7 with two homers against the 22-year old righty, who gets the start for Philly today.
