Matt Holliday is heating up. He hit the longest home run of this Cardinals' season on Monday, a 456-foot blast over the left-field bleachers at Miller Park. In the fifth inning Tuesday, he fought back from an 0-and-2 count against Wily Peralta for an RBI single, his second of the night. Holliday has 10 hits in his last 15 at-bats to raise his average from .227 to .264.

Steven Matz's streak of wins in seven straight starts is over. Matz departed after 5 2/3 innings with a 4-3 lead. But Tyler Saladino belted a two-run homer against Hansel Robles in the eighth to give the White Sox a one-run edge and hand Matz a no-decision. The Mets record remains Frank Viola earning a win in nine straight starts spanning the 1989 and '90 seasons.

Adrian Gonzalez is back to a .300 batting average after a first-inning single against the Cubs' Jake Arrieta. The veteran's offensive production took a tumble in late April, when he went 0-for-20 on a six-game homestand. He has been productive of late, going 14-for-37 since May 21, including eight hits in the recent three-game series at New York against the Mets.

Jake Arrieta froze Dodgers SS Corey Seager for a called third strike in the first inning on Tuesday night. Manager Joe Maddon often cites how opposing hitters freeze on some of Arrieta's better pitches. "Just watch their takes" he often says. When they walk away shaking their head you know Arrieta is on.
