No meeting has been scheduled - or agreed to - between the Knicks and Kevin Durant at this point, sources say. The Knicks are optimistic that they'll ultimately get consideration from Durant but they were not among the initial group of teams with whom Durant agreed to meet. The Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are the first known teams to secure a meeting with Durant, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Durant's ties to the Knicks include his strong relationship with Carmelo Anthony and the relationship between his agent, Rich Kleiman of Roc Nation Sports, and Knicks GM Steve Mills. Still, given that New York is not among the first group of teams with whom Durant has agreed to meet, it seems as if the club faces long odds to sign him.

Derrick Rose's cap number for next summer will be at least $25 million, so having his Bird Rights can be helpful, but only to a certain degree. If the Knicks wanted to re-sign him, they can still exceed the cap to do so. But the most likely route would be to extend him or renounce his Bird Rights and sign him as a free agent.

Pending free agent Hassan Whiteside explains what factors will go into his big decision, with a max contract looming.

The Knicks have Derrick Rose's Bird Rights, so they can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him next summer if they choose. This is significant because it would allow the Knicks to use most of their cap space to sign free agents in the summer of 2017 and then also re-sign Rose. The Knicks can also sign Rose to a three-year extension before 6/30/2017 because he has been under the same contract for more than three years.

The Memphis Grizzlies claimed ex-Knicks guard Tony Wroten off of waivers Friday. The Knicks released Wroten on Wednesday after signing him late in the season. New York at one point appeared optimistic that Wroten could help them next season, so the decision to waive him was a bit of a surprise. Wroten now returns to Memphis, which selected him in the first round of the 2012 draft.

Difficult to get any definitive read on Hassan Whiteside's leanings entering free agency other than he's going in seemingly completely open-minded about all possibilities, both staying in Miami or signing elsewhere.
