Jeff Hornacek has a 'big supporter' in Carmelo Anthony. Anthony explains why here: "He came to see me work out a couple of times, which was surprising.... That was good feeling just to see the energy and vibe, it was a lot different," Anthony said Monday at the unveiling of the Team USA roster in Harlem. "For him to take that step and want to have that conversation with me, wanting to start off the relationship on the right foot, I accepted that. How we're going to play, we haven't discussed basketball... but I'm a big supporter.''

Nets coach Kenny Atkinson was also emphatic that the team is not trading Brook Lopez: "No. Absolutely not. Have not talked about it."

In addition to finding a big man in free agency, the Knicks need to find a replacement for Arron Afflalo at shooting guard. DeMar DeRozan is the biggest name on the market (not counting Kevin Durant), and the Knicks are reportedly interested. Orlando's Evan Fournier and Charlotte's Nic Batum also have fans in the Knicks' organization, sources say. The club's of interest in both Batum and Fournier is unclear. Batum, of course, will have many suitors on July 1 and will likely command a max salary. Fournier is a restricted free agent and it seems likely that Orlando works to retain him because the club just traded Victor Oladipo. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if the Knicks prioritize center over shooting guard in free agency; they probably won't the able to spend big money on both positions.

Nets coach Kenny Atkinson continues to harp on leadership when it comes to Brook Lopez and really wanting his 7-footer to become a better leader. That's definitely a focus moving forward -- and with a very young, rebuilding team, it needs to be.

Mike Mazzeo ESPN Staff Writer

Nets coach Kenny Atkinson on his team's needs in free agency: "I think veteran leadership is important. I think undervalued guys, guys that might be under the radar and can produce and maybe not necessarily the big star, maybe we're not in position to get that guy and really guys like Isaiah Whitehead that fill the characteristics we're looking for -- hardworking, high character, high basketball IQ is important for us and competitors."

Nets first year coach Kenny Atkinson will coach the team's summer league squad in Las Vegas. That team will feature Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Chris McCullough and Isaiah Whitehead.
