Mavericks slip to No. 13 in rankings

Marc Stein drops Dallas two notches following a 1-2 week. The Mavericks will play three of this week's four games on the road, beginning with Monday night's "reunion" with Rajon Rondo in Sacramento. Power Rankings

Mavs coach Rick Carlisle on Kobe Bryant's retirement: "My take on the whole thing is that this is an ending in one respect, but hes preparing for world dominance in some area of the game. Im quite certain of that. I have as much respect for him as an opposing player as any player that Ive ever either played against or coached against in this league. I mean, when that guy walks in the building, youve got a lot of problems to deal with and youve got a guy thats a cold-blooded killer when it comes to winning time."

Carlisle: No regrets about Rondo era

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN's Tim MacMahon before the Mavs' visit to Sacramento to face Rajon Rondo and the Kings on Monday: "At this point, everyone has turned the page. Anyone who knows Rondo knew he was gonna bounce back with a monster year this year." Shouldn't have done the deal

JaVale McGee is a fantasy hail mary

The Mavs reserve big man is getting eased back into things as he returns from his leg injury. If McGee is on the court on Saturday, he might be able to put up some points against his former team. DFS best buys (Insider)

J.J. Barea out at least 3 more games

The Mavs guard is dealing with a sprained ankle and coach Rick Carlisle said his return is more week-to-week than day-to-day: "He probably won't play the next three [games] and we'll go from there. He is going to travel on the trip next week as we plan right now."

Zaza Pachulia catches our eye

The Mavericks' backup plan at center after losing out on DeAndre Jordan has collected nine double-doubles. Pachulia is among the players cited by our experts as the most surprising of the season's opening month. 5-on-5

J.J. Barea will miss at least the next three games with a sprained right ankle, according to coach Rick Carlisle. "It could have been worse," Carlisle said.
