BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Jermaine Blackburn scored 17 points and Coby
Karl added 12 as Boise State outlasted Henderson State 54-52
Saturday in the Boise State Invitational tournament.
NCAA Division II Henderson State (1-4) had a chance to tie the
game in the final 10 seconds, but two put-back attempts from under
the basket by senior forward Tyrel Hightower went over the basket.
Boise State of Division I Western Athletic Conference (2-0) was
able to inbounds the ball and run out the final seven seconds.
Henderson St., of Arkadelphia, Ark., pulled to within 54-52 with
a 3-pointer by senior guard Tarvoris Uzoigwe with 1:18 left in the
Uzoigwe was Henderson States leading scorer with 12 points and
Omar Guinea added 11.
Henderson State opened a 20-12 lead with eight minutes left in
the first half based on an 11-6 rebounding edge and 50 percent
shooting from the field. But Boise State rode the scoring of
Blackburn to narrow the Reddies halftime lead to 28-27.
Boise State took the lead for good 32-31 on a field goal by Karl
with 16:39 left in the game. The Reddies out-rebounded Boise State
39-29 but doubled the Broncos in turnovers with 16.
