SEATTLE (AP) -- Marvin Lea scored 22 points and Pepperdine set a school record with 21 3-pointers in a 98-83 win over Nicholls State on Tuesday in the final day of the Basketball Travelers Classic.

The 21 3-pointers is the most in Division I since Furman made 21 on Dec. 29, 2004. Troy holds the Division I record with 28 against George Mason in 1994.

Pepperdine's 21 was one shy of the West Coast Conference record. Gonzaga made 22 against San Francisco in 1995.

Jason Walberg's fifth 3-pointer with 11:05 left in the second half was the Waves' 18th, besting the previous school record of 17 set Feb. 23, 2002 against Santa Clara.

The Waves (1-2) also set school records for 3-pointers made in a half with 12 and attempts in a game with 43. Pepperdine made just eight shots inside the 3-point line.

"That's the way we're going to play. Anybody zones us we're going to shoot 40 to 50 threes," Pepperdine coach Vance Walberg said.

Lea was 4 of 6 on 3-pointers and had eight rebounds. Walberg finished with 15 points, all on 3-pointers. Kingsley Costain scored 20 including five 3's, and Chase Griffin scored 16.

Nicholls State's zone defense was burned for a second straight night by hot perimeter shooting. The Colonels allowed 17 3-pointers to Washington on Monday night, a school record for the Huskies.

Adonis Gray led the Colonels' (0-4) with 33 points, 19 in the first half, and nine rebounds. Gray scored at least 20 points in all three games of the tournament. Aaron Scott and Justin Payne each added 15.

The Colonels trailed 89-66 with 5:18 left after Griffin's fourth 3-pointer, but Nicholls State held Pepperdine to two free throws over the next four minutes and closed within 10 with 1:06 left. The Waves made seven free-throws in the final minute to pull away.

Pepperdine made eight of its first 12 3-point attempts and 30 of its first 33 points came from behind the arc. The Waves rediscovered their offense after being held to 58 points and 36 percent shooting in a 83-58 loss to Northern Iowa on Monday.

Despite the 3-point proficiency, the Waves led only 47-43 at halftime, as Nicholls State held a 17-1 advantage at the free-throw line, and outscored Pepperdine 30-20 over the final 12:30 of the half.

The Colonels dressed just eight players -- leading returning scorer Stefan Blaszczynski was injured and watching on the bench -- and was playing their fourth game in four days spanning three time zones.

Nicholls State, 9-18 last season and 5-11 in the Southland Conference, began this season at Mississippi State on Saturday, then flew to Seattle for Sunday's five-point loss to Northern Iowa and lost to No. 17 Washington 102-74 on Monday night.

After playing Pepperdine, the Colonels go to No. 7 LSU on Friday, followed by a game at No. 19 Texas.
