SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Pat Calathes scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Ahmad Nivins scored 19 points and had nine rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's to an 86-66 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-off Monday.
Tasheed Carr added 11 points and 12 assists to help lead the Hawks to the win.
Saint Joseph's (1-0) will meet Syracuse (1-0) in Tuesday's second-round game after the Orange held off Siena (0-2) 97-89 in the night's opening game.
Fairleigh Dickinson (0-1) and Siena will meet in the consolation game.
Saint Joseph's shot 62 percent overall in the game (33-of-53).
Fairleigh Dickinson never led. The Knights had a tough time with the Nivins and Calathes inside-outside combination. If they took away Nivins, Calathes was there to hit from the outside and Nivins was dominant in the paint.
Lidzius scored seven of his 11 points during a 12-3 run midway through the first half that helped give the Hawks a 46-32 halftime lead.
