SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) -- Freshman A.J. Ogilvy had 23 points and Alex Gordon hit a key shot with 52 seconds left to lead Vanderbilt past Bradley 95-86 for the South Padre Island Invitational championship Saturday night.
The Commodores (5-0) were leading 85-84 when Gordon hit a 10-foot jumper in the lane for an 87-84 lead, and he made four free throws in the final 30 seconds to help put the game away.
Ogilvy showed some versatility, scoring on post moves, offensive rebounds and occasional outside shots. He had plenty of help from tournament MVP Shan Foster, who had 22 points, five rebounds and two steals a night after leading Vandy with 15 points in a victory against Utah State.
The Commodores scored 31 points off 20 turnovers by the Braves (4-2), and they made 22 more free throws than Bradley.
Daniel Ruffin led Bradley back from an 18-point halftime deficit, finishing with 23 points and going 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Andrew Warren was 4-of-8 on 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Both were named to the all-tournament team.
Vanderbilt's Jermaine Beal played solid down the stretch and finished with 13 points and four assists. He and Ogilvy were all-tournament picks.
