CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- As the Assembly Hall emptied out, one hoarse fan shouted he wanted his money back.Penn State coach Ed DeChellis seemed to understand, saying the game between his Nittany Lions and Illinois might have set basketball back a few years to the days of founder James Naismith.Come to think of it, "Naismith probably rolled over several times," DeChellis said after Penn State's 38-33 victory over Illinois (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP) on Wednesday night.
• The last time Penn State scored fewer than 40 points in a game and won was March 1, 1952 (beat Pittsburgh 24-9).
• The 33 points by Illinois is the fewest scored by the Fighting Illini since 1947 (31 points vs. Minnesota)
• The 71 combined points were an Assembly Hall low. The teams combined to shoot 28-96 from the floor (29.2 field-goal percentage).
