Maynor leads way, Sanders nears triple-double as VCU crushes Mason
RICHMOND, Va. -- Eric Maynor and Virginia Commonwealth University are heading back to the NCAA tournament, and the stellar guard is bringing a disruptive big man along this time.
Maynor had 25 points and eight assists and Larry Sanders scored 18 points and set championship game records with 20 rebounds and seven blocks Monday night as the Rams beat George Mason 71-50 in the final of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.Fast Facts
• VCU captured its second CAA tournament title in the last three seasons and heads to the NCAA tournament for the ninth time in school history.
• The outside-inside combo of senior guard Eric Maynor and sophomore forward Larry Sanders paced the Rams, accounting for 43 points and 16 of the team's 26 field goals. Maynor (25 points, eight assists) recorded his 22nd 20-point game of the season; Sanders had a career high 20 rebounds to go with 18 points and seven blocks.
• The 21-point loss was George Mason's worst since losing 73-50 vs. Northeastern on Feb. 24, 2007.
