Anderson, Cunningham lead way as Villanova ousts upset-minded American
PHILADELPHIA -- The winngest senior class in Villanova history was about 10 minutes away from an early exit.Then they started to play Villanova basketball. It's basic definition, attack the boards, drive to the basket, get to the foul line. With Dwayne Anderson and Dante Cunningham perfecting that strategy, American's upset threat was thwarted.
• After trailing at the half by 10, Villanova outscored American by 23 (49-26) to avoid the upset and advance to the second round of the tournament for the second straight season.
• Dwayne Anderson scored a career-high 25 points and Dante Cunningham also finished with 25 to lead the Wildcats.
• Villanova improved to 8-4 in the tournament under head coach Jay Wright.

Well into the second half, Villanova was in serious trouble, down 53-43 with under 13 minutes remaining in the game. But the Wildcats started getting the ball inside and drawing fouls, leading to a huge run that closed out American.
