Texas beats Minnesota, wins tourney opener for fifth time in six years
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A.J. Abrams' 3-point shooting was a key reason Texas got within a game of the Final Four last season. Now the Longhorns are moving on again thanks to the senior's latest long-range shooting flurry in the NCAA tournament.
• A.J. Abrams had 26 points and made 8-of-15 3-pointers as the Longhorns won a tournament game for the eighth time in nine years.
• The loss was Tubby Smith's second in the first round (13-2).
• Minnesota shot 31 percent in the second half (1-for-9 from 3-point range).
• Texas was 11-for-20 from 3-point range and had 14 offensive rebounds resulting in 15 second chance points.
