Vaughn's FTs, strip save victory as Cincy advances to Big East quarters
NEW YORK -- Cincinnati has rebounded quite well in getting comfortable at the Big East tournament. The 11th-seeded Bearcats again used a huge advantage on the boards to beat sixth-seeded Louisville 69-66 on Wednesday night to advance to the quarterfinals. They are the only team to play in the opening round still playing, and it was rebounding that keyed both close wins.
• After trailing at the half by nine, Cincinnati outscored Louisville by 12 (37-25) to advance to the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament and knock out the reigning Big East tournament champ.
• The Bearcats have won two straight games in a conference tournament for the first time since 2004, when the team won the Conference USA tournament.
• Four players scored in double figures for Cincinnati including a team-high 16 points from Yancy Gates.
• Louisville lost its opening Big East tournament game for the second time in three years.
