CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- K.T. Harrell scored 13 points in a 24-5 first-half run and Virginia held Radford scoreless for nearly 15 minutes in a 54-44 victory Tuesday night.
Harrell was 5 for 5 from the field with three 3-pointers during the first half burst as the Cavaliers (6-3) won the opener of an eight-game homestand. Mustapha Farrakhan and Joe Harris led Virginia with 14 points each, and Mike Scott had 10 points and 13 rebounds.Gorkem Sonmez led Radford with 15 points.The Highlanders (2-6) started fast, but lost their fifth straight. They led 14-8 following a basket by Sonmez with 11:16 left in the half, but scored just five more points before the intermission -- none after Evan Faulkner's 3-pointer with 7:35 to play.
