MURRAY, Ky. -- B.J. Jenkins scored 25 points to lead Murray State past Morehead State 70-62 on Thursday night, clinching at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.
The Racers (22-8, 13-4) led 28-24 less than a minute into the second half before scoring 17 unanswered points to take a 45-24 lead with 14:05 left to play.
Kenneth Faried hit a jumper 23 seconds into the second half and ended the Eagles' scoring drought with another jumper at the 13:34 mark. Morehead State (21-8, 12-5) missed 10 consecutive field goals during that stretch.
Isacc Miles hit a layup with 12:47 to go, giving Murray State a 49-29 lead. But a 20-8 run cut the deficit to 57-49 with 3 minutes remaining.
The Racers went 13 for 16 from the free-throw line the rest of the way.
Demonte Harper scored 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Faried finished with 15 points and 10 boards.
It's about time for someone other than Duke and Kentucky to grab the top class. Could it be Shaka Smart and Texas in 2017?
Which teams have enjoyed the most NCAA tournament success since 2000? Kansas' recent run to the Elite Eight vaulted the Jayhawks up the list.
There's nowhere to go but up for the Eagles, who were winless in the ACC last season but return a slew of young players who gained valuable experience.
