Long Island wins Northeast tournament title for first NCAA bid in 14 years

Jamal Olasewere scored seven of his 31 points in overtime and LIU earned its first NCAA tournament bid in 14 years with an 85-82 overtime victory against two-time defending champion Robert Morris in the Northeast Conference title game Wednesday night.After having a career game in the biggest game of his career, Olasewere had a warning for the Blackbirds' NCAA opponents -- yes, he expects there to be more than one.Fast Facts
• Jamal Olasewere led Long Island with a career-high 31 points, along with 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and third straight.
• Long Island won its 13th straight game, the longest active streak in Division I.
• Robert Morris pulled even to force overtime on a Russell Johnson 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining in regulation.
• The win sends Long Island to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in school history, and the first time since 1997. The Blackbirds are 0-3 in tournament games.

The other 4-year school in the LIU system, C.W. Post, qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament by winning the East Coast Conference Tournament Championship this past Sunday. |
