SAN DIEGO -- Doug McDermott had 25 points and 12 rebounds in leading Creighton (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today) to an 85-83 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday night as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge.
The Bluejays (6-0), who trailed by 17 points in the first half, took a 72-69 lead when Ethan Wragge hit one of his four 3-pointers with 3:34 remaining.
The Aztecs (7-2) came back to within at point at 82-81 when Jamaal Franklin, who had 19 points, drained a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left.
Wragge, who had 19 points, hit a layup on a perfect feed from Jahenns Manigat to make it 84-81.
San Diego State's Xavier Thames, who had a team-high 21 points, hit a pair of free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 84-83. Manigat was fouled and hit his first free throw, and the Bluejays rebounded his second attempt to secure the win.
Louisville's Chinanu Onuaku, who recently underwent a medical procedure to correct a heart rhythm issue detected during the combine, will keep his name in the NBA draft pool.
