PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Dane Miller had 13 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocked shots and four steals to lead Rutgers to an 81-66 win over Monmouth (N.J.) Monday night.

Freshman Eli Carter made 8 of 10 shots for a career-high 23 points for Rutgers (5-5), which placed five players in double figures. Mike Poole added 14 points, and Jerome Seagears and Gilvydas Biruta had 12 points apiece as the Knights snapped a two-game losing streak.

Will Campbell scored 13 for Monmouth (2-9), which had won its last two.

After a tough-shooting first half, Rutgers used two big runs to pull away. Ahead 40-37, the Scarlet Knights scored 12 straight to open a 15-point lead.

Monmouth, which fell to 0-8 against Rutgers, closed within 52-43 before the Scarlet Knights went on a 23-9 run to open their largest lead, 75-52, with 3:57 remaining. Rutgers scored 11 straight to complete the run.

Miller, who notched his sixth career double-double, also had three assists and helped Rutgers amass 11 blocks in the game. Biruta added seven rebounds. Carter's 23 points marked the second straight game in which he has posted a career high.

After a 3-pointer by Campbell with 9:01 remaining made the score 57-46, the Hawks went 5:18 without a field goal as Rutgers opened its 23-point advantage.

The Scarlet Knights shot 47.4 percent (27 for 57) overall, thanks to 58.1 percent shooting (18 for 31) in the second half. Monmouth shot 37.9 percent (22 for 38) and committed 18 turnovers.

Rutgers endured its second straight slow start after scoring a season-low 20 first-half points in its previous game against Princeton. The Scarlet Knights trailed 17-7 after 10 minutes, shooting 2 for 14 with seven turnovers during that span.

Two straight 3-pointers by Carter, who had 13 points in the half, helped spark a 23-10 run over the final 9:47. Carter's three-point play gave Rutgers a 30-27 lead at intermission.

Both teams shot under 35 percent in the half, with the Scarlet Knights at 34.6 percent (9 for 26) and the Hawks at 32.3 percent (10 for 31). Each side committed 11 turnovers.
