BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Keith Clanton scored 10 points and Central Florida defeated Alabama-Birmingham 48-41 on Saturday for its first win over the Blazers in the eight-game history of the series.
UCF (15-4, 5-1 Conference USA) started the game on a 14-2 run and led by as many 14 in the first half. The Blazers rallied to take a 41-38 lead after two free throws by Jordan Swing with 5:12 to play. But the Blazers went 0 for 6 from the field the rest of the way as UCF ended on a 10-0 run.
The Blazers (6-12, 1-4), who have lost five of their past six games, suffered their worst shooting night of the season and made 28.6 percent (14 of 49) of their field goal attempts.
Cameron Moore had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Swing also scored 12 points for UAB, whose last five games have been decided by seven points or less.
Purdue coach Matt Painter says players haven't used the fifth-year graduate transfer rule for its true intent.
The 2017 recruiting class is short on point guards, with Trevon Duval leading only eight prospects from the ESPN 60 who are still available.
The dust has settled after players made their NBA draft decisions. Which college teams won? Which lost? Well, Villanova is pretty happy. USC, meanwhile, might not be as thrilled.
