LOS ANGELES -- Chasson Randle scored 27 of his 30 points in a dynamic first half, surpassing his previous career high before halftime in Stanford's 85-65 victory over Arizona State on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Pac-12 tournament.
Aaron Bright had 11 points for the seventh-seeded Cardinal (21-10), who took a 26-point lead late in the first half thanks in part to an 18-4 run led by Randle. Stanford's freshman scoring leader hit five 3-pointers and 10 free throws in his spectacular half, and Arizona State got no closer than 13 points after halftime.Stanford will face second-seeded California on Thursday. The Cardinal beat their Bay Area rivals 75-70 last Sunday, preventing the Golden Bears from winning the conference title outright.Chanse Creekmur and Jordan Bachynski scored 11 points apiece for the 10th-seeded Sun Devils (10-21), who acquired an insurmountable deficit in the first half while committing 11 of their 14 turnovers.
