OAKLAND, Mich. -- Travis Bader scored 27 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Oakland to a 96-62 victory over Albion on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
Bader was 9 of 15 from the field, including 6 of 10 from 3-point range. He added seven rebounds. Drew Valentine had 13 points and Cory Petros and Ryan Bass scored 12 each for the Golden Grizzlies, who shot 59 percent from the field in the first half and 55 percent for the game. Oakland was 9 of 18 on 3-pointers, scored 26 points off Albion turnovers and never trailed.
Golden Grizzlies coach Greg Kampe, who started his 29th season with Oakland, now needs only nine wins to reach 500 for his career.
Former Kentucky guard Ed Davender, the only Wildcat with at least 1,500 points and 400 assists, has died. He was 49.
Guard Naz Mitrou-Long, whose 2015-16 season ended in December due to hip problems, has been granted a hardship waiver for the coming season, Iowa State said.
As the Sooners look to life without superstar Buddy Hield and his sidekicks, it's clear their unseasoned players will need to grow up fast.
